FIBRE CEMENT, MADE FOR ALBERTA WEATHER.
James Hardie is Double D's specialty siding — a fibre-cement board that handles hail, freeze-thaw cycles and prairie sun without the upkeep wood demands, installed to manufacturer spec on every job.
JAMES HARDIE · FIBRE CEMENT
BUILT FOR HAIL, FREEZE-THAW & SUN.
Alberta is hard on exteriors. Fibre cement was made for exactly the conditions that chew up lesser materials.
WHY HARDIE HERE
HAIL
FREEZE-THAW
Calgary and Airdrie sit in hail country. Fibre cement is a hard, dense board — the kind of surface that stands up to impacts that crack thin vinyl and mark up softer materials.
Hardie's HZ5® product line is engineered for northern climates — made to handle repeated freeze-thaw cycles and moisture without rotting, swelling or warping the way wood can.
SUN & COLOUR
LOW UPKEEP
Factory-finished ColorPlus® colours are applied and cured in the plant for an even, consistent finish — no thin site-painted coat to weather unevenly under strong prairie sun.
Compared with wood siding, there's no rot to chase and no constant repainting cycle — an occasional wash, and keeping caulking and paint in good shape, is about it.
THE PRODUCT PERFORMS WHEN THE INSTALL DOES.
Fibre cement works as a system. Boards hung with the wrong clearances, fasteners or flashing details won't perform the way the manufacturer designed them to — so every Double D Hardie job goes on to manufacturer spec.
INSTALLED TO SPEC
• Fastening to spec — correct nails, placement and depth on every board.
• Proper clearances — at rooflines, grade, decks and hard surfaces, so boards stay dry.
• Flashing & water management — weather barrier and flashing details behind every joint and opening.
• Joints, corners & trim finished to spec — the details that decide how the wall ages.
DEEP NAVIES, WARM NEUTRALS, CRISP TRIM.
Lap siding, board & batten, shakes and architectural panels — paired with white trim, wood-tone accents or colour-matched corners. A few real Double D Hardie projects:
COLOUR & TRIM

BEFORE YOU ASK
HARDIE QUESTIONS
What is James Hardie siding made of?
It's fibre cement — a mix of cement, sand, water and cellulose fibres, formed into boards and cured. That makeup is why it behaves more like masonry than wood or vinyl: hard, dense and dimensionally stable.
How does it handle Alberta hail and freeze-thaw?
Well — it's the main reason we recommend it here. The board's density stands up to hail impacts, and Hardie's HZ5® line is engineered for northern climates, so it handles repeated freeze-thaw cycles and moisture without rotting or warping like wood.
Does James Hardie need much maintenance?
Much less than wood. An occasional wash to keep it clean, and periodic checks of caulking and paint, are the main upkeep. Factory-finished ColorPlus® boards hold their colour a long time; primed boards are painted on site and will need repainting eventually, like any painted surface.
What styles and colours can I choose from?
Lap siding, board & batten, shakes and architectural panels, in a wide factory colour palette — or primed boards painted the colour you pick. Trim, corners and accents can match, contrast in white, or use wood-tone finishes. We'll walk through samples and combinations for your house.
